PHILIPPE, FÉLIX:

French army officer; born 1825; died in Paris July 23, 1848. A lieutenant and instructor in artillery in the National Guard, he was entrusted with the defense of the Hotel-de-Ville at Paris during the Revolution of 1848. He was fatally wounded in a conflict with the Revolutionists on June 24, 1848. A monument to his memory was raised by the Jews of France.
