ROSEN, MATHIAS:
Polish banker and member of the council of state; born at Warsaw 1804; died there 1865. In 1846 he succeeded to his father's banking business. On account of his eminent services to the community, he was elected in 1862 member of the council of state of Warsaw, and was entrusted in the following year by Grand Duke Constantine with a commission to study the moral, industrial, and agricultural conditions of the Alsatian Jews.
