TANḤUM BAR JEREMIAH:

Palestinian amora of the fourth century; pupil of R. Manis the Elder. In the town of Ḥefer in Galilee he once rendered a legal decision on a religious question, whereupon his attention was called to the fact that his action was unwarranted, since his teacher resided within twelve miles of that place. Only one halakic decision of his—regarding the liturgy—is extant (Yer. Ber. 7b). He was the author of several haggadic sentences (Midr. Teh. to Ps. xxxi.; Gen. R. iv. 8; Lam. R. ii. 1; and Pesiḳ. 163b).
