WAHL, MORITZ CALLMANN:
German writer; born March 28, 1829, at Sondershausen; died Oct. 15, 1887. He studied Oriental languages at Leipsic under Julius Fürst and H. L. Fleischer. Later he taught for a time at an English school, and subsequently held the position of correspondent in a large business house at Lyons, France. Finally he settled at Erfurt, where he founded a business academy. Aside from his pedagogic activity Wahl pursued scientific studies. The following are the more important of his works: "Beiträge zur Vergleichenden Parömiologie"; "Das Sprichwort in der Hebräisch-Aramäischen Literatur"; "The Book of Merry Riddles"; "Das Sprichwort der Neueren Sprachen"; "Die Englische Parömiologie vor Shakespeare"; "Das Parömiologische Sprachgut bei Shakespeare."
