Theophorous name, shortened either from "Eleazar" or from "Azriel," both occurring in the Bible. 1. Son of Ephraim, slain by the inhabitants of Gath (I Chron. vii. 21). 2. A Levite who assisted Nehemiah in reconstructing the walls of Jerusalem (Neh. iii. 19). 3. A priest who assisted in the dedication of the walls of Jerusalem (Neh. xii. 42). 4. One of the sons of Hur, father of Hushah (I Chron. iv. 4). 5. A Gadite warrior, one of David's generals (I Chron. xii. 9).
