Third son of Joktan, of the family of Shem (Gen. x. 26; I Chron. i. 20). The name is preserved in the modern Hadramaut, a province of southern Arabia. Strabo (xvi. 42) mentions the Χατραμωτῖται, one of the four chief tribes of southern Arabia, known for their traffic in frankincense.
