LEWINSKY, ABRAHAM:

German rabbi; born March 1, 1866, at Loslau, Upper Silesia. He studied at the University of Breslau from 1884 to 1887 (Ph.D.), pursuing at the same time his rabbinical studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary. In 1890 he was called as district rabbi to Weilburg-on-the-Lahn; and two years later he took charge of the district rabbinate of Hildesheim, which position he still (1904) occupies.
Lewinsky has published: "Beiträge zur Kenntniss der Religionsphilosophischen Anschauungen des Flavius Josephus"; "Der Hildesheimer Rabbiner Samuel Hameln" (in "Kaufmann Gedenkbuch" and printed separately); and "Aus dem Hildesheimer Stadtarchive."
