TORDESILLAS:
Spanish city near Valladolid, with a Jewish community, which was visited by Vicente Ferrer toward the end of 1411 for propagandic purposes. He advised the Jews of the city to change their abode for the narrow ghetto of Valladolid, but his counsel was disregarded. In 1474 the number of Jews in Tordesillas was still so great that they paid 900 maravedis in taxes. Tordesillas was the birthplace of Moses ha-Kohen de Tordesillas.
